Grievances

The Institute was established in the 1999 (approved by AICTE, New Delhi, India & affiliated to BPUT, Odisha, Rourkela a state university) with the objective for imparting Management Education promoted by Gokarneswar Charitable Trust. The aim and objective of the Institute is to focuses on honing leadership capabilities of the students apart from imparting development of Managerial Skills, thereby enabling the students to tackle complex managerial situations and assume leadership roles in the corporate sector. This self-financed Institute was conceived by Late Kalpataru Das, Ex-Minister Panchayati Raj, Government of Odisha, and former member of Rajya Sabha. Over the preceding decades, BIITM has carved a niche for itself in the Management Education domain of Eastern India.

As per 6.3.2 AICTE approval process handbook issued from time to time by the approving authority it is an essential requirement for technical Institution to follow the grievance redressal mechanism which is mandatory.

Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC)

The Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) aims to address the grievances of faculty/staff members including service matters at the Institution level. The students can state their grievance regarding any academic and non- academic matter within the campus through the online and grievance/ suggestion box. The institution aims at solving the grievances of the students within stipulated academic and non- academic matter within the campus through the online and grievance/ suggestion box. The institution aims at solving the grievances of the students, faculty and Staff within stipulated time.

Objectives:

The Grievance Redressal Committee has been developed to settle the grievances of the students, faculty and staff within a reasonable time period for further strengthening the bond of the students with the institution by providing them with all kind of facilities to a satisfaction level for maintaining a convenient ambience of academic teaching and learning.

Composition of Grievance Redressal Committee:

  • A complaint from an aggrieved student relating to the institution shall be addressed to the Chairperson, Student Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC).
  • The Institution has constitute Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) with the following composition, namely:
    • Principal of the College- Chairperson;
    • Three senior members of the teaching faculty to be nominated by the Principal as Members and out of three one member shall be female and other from SC/ST/OBC category;
    • A representative from among students of the College to be nominated by the Principal based on academic merit/excellence in sports/performance in co-curricular activities Special Invitee.
  • The term of the members and the special invitee shall be of two years.
  • The quorum for the meeting including the Chairperson, but excluding the special invitee, shall be three.
  • In considering the grievances before it, the GRC shall follow principles of natural justice.
  • The GRC shall send its report with recommendations, if any, to the concerned institution and a copy thereof to the aggrieved student, within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
  • Any student aggrieved by the decision of the Student Grievance Redressal Committee may prefer an appeal to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha, Rourkela.
Mechanism of the GRC
  • The grievance of students, faculty and staff may register through online at www.biitm.ac.in/onlinegrievances.
  • The grievance of students, faculty and staff may submit in the Drop Box near library.
  • The grievance may submit to the Principal besides online and offline.
  • All the grievances to be properly documented by the Member Convenor of GRC.
  • The GRC shall send its report with recommendations, if any, to the University and a copy thereof to the aggrieved student/ faculty/staff member, within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
  • Grievance redressal committee (GRC) shall consider only individual grievances of specific nature of students, Faculty and staff.
  • The GRC shall not consider any grievance of general applicability or of collective nature of raised collectively by more than one employee/student.
  • Post receipt of the complaint/application the committee will decide on the merit of case regarding scope of further discussion investigation and act promptly.
  • The GRC may mediate between complainant and defendant against who the complaint has been made, it required.
  • GRC shall consider redressing of grievances within a reasonable time.
  • The cell will give report to the principal about the cases attended to and seek guidance from the higher authorities if required.
  • Incase student/ faculty/ staff is not satisfied with the decision of GRC, they may appeal Biju Patnaik University of Technology for Redressal of their Grievances.
  • The Student Grievance Redressal Committee, as the case may be, shall fix a date for hearing the complaint which shall be communicated to the institution and the aggrieved student.
  • An aggrieved person may appear either in person or authorize a representative to present his/her case.
  • Grievances not resolved by the Student Grievance Redressal Committee shall be referred to the Executive Director, within the time period provided in these Regulations.
  • Institutions shall extend co-operation to the Executive Director or the Student Grievance Redressal Committee, in early redressal of grievances;
  • The Institute shall ensure zero tolerance in handling the grievances of student/ faculty/ staff within the time frame to address the issues and provide natural justice.

Scope:

Any students/ faculty/staff may lodge grievance about any academic and non- academic matters to members of GRC.
